The first safeTALK is at the Shadsworth Children’s Centre on 3rd July.

safeTALK is a half-day training that prepares anyone over the age of 15 to
identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid
resources.

As a safeTALK-trained suicide alert helper, you will be better able to:

?    move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss or avoid suicide;

?    identify people who have thoughts of suicide;

?    apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe) to connect a person with
suicide thoughts to suicide first aid, intervention caregivers.

The following week, we will be presenting suicideTALK, a short session that
invites interested community members to become more aware of suicide prevention
opportunities in their community. Dealing openly with the stigma around
suicide, this exploration focuses upon the question, “Should we talk about
suicide?” This will be followed by the Professionals Network meeting.

On the 24th and 25th July, we will be delivering the 2 day ASIST
programme.

The Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) workshop is for
caregivers who want to feel more comfortable, confident and competent in
helping to prevent the immediate risk of suicide.  Participation in the
full two days is required. Enjoy small group discussions and skills practice
that are based upon adult learning principles. Experience powerful videos on
suicide intervention. Feel challenged and safe. Learn suicide first aid.

All of the training costs have been met by Blackburn with Darwen Public Health
Department, so take advantage of these opportunities to secure an
internationally recognised certificate.
